To blog or not to blog…

So here I am.  Up until now I have always resisted the temptation to blog.  As an HR professional, I have always felt it better to maintain a dignified and professional distance from the blogosphere even though I am an active social media user and tweeter.  But I like to write, I have opinions and views and the constraints of Twitter can be frustrating at times.  But on he other hand, there have to be boundaries.  I never tweet about my current employer for example or anything I am working on.

But I can see the other side of the coin.  A lot of the people I connect with and respect in the social media world all blog and share their views.  And that’s the crux of it for me.  I’ve been thinking a lot recently about things that frustrate me in the world of HR, recruitment, learning etc and have realised that it’s all too easy to sit on the sidelines and snipe.  If you want a voice and to be heard, you have to be part of the discussion and get involved. Influence from within. So that’s what I’m intending to do.

It’s not about building my personal brand, satisfying my ego or becoming a spokesperson for my profession.  For me, it’s about sharing and putting back.  So much of what I learn professionally and personally these days comes from blogs and online sources.  It’s all about the content.

As for the blog title?  Well, it’s a song title from way back that I have always liked.  Being in HR often feels like you are walking against the tide of people and opinion so I thought it was rather apt.  Anyway, time to take a deep breath and jump in.  Wish me luck!
